I like the cartoon that says "Acupuncture $85, pretty close puncture $5."
Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific spots called points that are located all over the body. The stimulation is done by inserting very fine needles. These needles are about the size of three pieces of hair. The needles are so tiny, that if the practitioner misses the point (pretty close puncture) the patient won't feel anything.
So are you wondering what it feels like when the practitioner gets the point? Some people say it feels like a dull ache, some say an electrical sensation, some say a slight pinch. Some people love the sensation, some people tolerate the sensation because they love the results.
That brings us to results. What results can you expect? I wish I could give you an exact answer, however, because each person is a unique individual, the results are equally unique. I have seen people experience what they call miracles, and others I have seen take a long time before noticing changes in their symptoms.
When we begin we have a very thorough initial consultation, and sometimes the main symptoms that bring someone to acupuncture are the last to leave, while secondary symptoms have great results. Each time I see a person we'll track those symptoms to see what is changing and what isn't.
Most people begin to wake up to their bodies and begin to notice that symptoms are actually telling them something. When you make friends with your symptoms, you can often get the message they are telling you. A common experience with acupuncture is a sense of wellbeing and wakefulness.
I have been treating people since 1992, and I still wake up every morning excited about the people who will come for treatment and the amazing unique experiences they will have. This work is such an incredible privilege. I have personally received acupuncture treatment since 1989 and consider it a vital part of my self care and health mainenance.
