Deanna Slate is a Maryland Licensed Acupuncturist, a diplomate for the National Commission for Certification of Acupuncturists and Oriental Medicine and a Core Faculty member for TAI-SOPHIA Institute for the Healing Arts in Laurel, Maryland. Deanna attended the Worsley Institute of Classical Acupuncture in Florida and the College of Traditional Acupuncture in England. At both schools, she studied directly under Professor J.R. Worsley. Deanna worked as clinical director at the Worsley Institute prior to opening her private practice in Crofton, Maryland in 1995.
The Chesapeake Acupuncture Center was named in 1996 in Crofton, Maryland and has been a registered tradename for Deanna Slate since that time.
In 1990, Deanna was introduced to Shamanism when Eliot Cowan, author of Plant Spirit Medicine, taught at the Acupuncture school she was attending. After graduation, Deanna began pursuing Shamanic studies and has taken additional courses with Eliot Cowan, as well as courses with Sandra Ingerman, author of Soul Retrieval, Welcome Home, and Medicine for the Earth: How to Transform Personal and Environmental Toxins, and with Tom Cowan, author of Fire in the Head: Shamanism and the Celtic Spirit, and Shamanism as a Spiritual Practice for Daily Life. Deanna is a graduate of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies’ three-year advanced training program, and a graduate of Tom Cowan’s to-year program in Celtic Shamanism. Ms. Stennett is also an ordained minister with the Circle of the Sacred Earth, a church founded on Shamanic Practices. Ms. Stennett recently graduated from Sandra Ingerman’s two year teacher’s training program. Deanna has several programs offered locally to the public. These programs include workshops and classes, a two-year advanced training program that goes deeper within shamanism, and a drumming group that meets every other Wednesday night. The drumming group (formed in 1997) meets in Deanna’s home and is free to those who already know how to do a shamanic journey.
